Self-Contained English 4

During this course, we do a combination of reading, writing and discussion. We also cover Mechanics Review (capitalization, punctuation, etc.) & Independent Reading of novels and articles throughout the year. Listed below are the major texts and projects during each quarter.

 

Q1 - "Yellow Woman" and other Native American Poetry - Analysis of Structure; Personal Statement Essay

Q2 - "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens and several short stories - A comparison of Theme and Character Development in two or more texts

Q3 - "Born a Crime" by Trevor Noah - Rhetorical Appeals, Short Writing Analysis and Memoir Writing

Q4 - "In the Heights" - Research Project on a Social Issue & Presentation
