About me

Hi, I’m Mrs. Smith, welcome to my art page!

Here’s a little bit about me:

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Photojournalism and Graphic Design from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2004.  After graduation I began working in the field of Marketing and Graphic Design.  I worked professionally for 2 years in St. Louis, and then moved to Chicago.

In 2006, I had a change of heart and went back to school to study Art Education while continuing to work full time.  She earned her Masters in Education in 2007 from DePaul University, the same year she was hired as a High School Art Teacher at Mather.  I teach Art 1, Photography, Digital Media and Yearbook. I sponsor the Photography Club and the WE Club. I LOVE what I do and can’t wait to make art with these talented kids at Mather.

When I’m not at school or making art, I enjoy time with my family. I’ve been married ten years to my hilarious and musically talented husband, Mike, and I love playing with my amazing children, Taylor, Avett, Gracie and crazy dog, Maddie.

Inside Out Project

Diversity: The art of thinking independently together. Students at Mather celebrated their diversity through a photography project in collaboration with JR by pasting 200+ portraits to the outside of the school. Enjoy a video created by Jillian Vo of this beautiful project.
