Peter Auffant, Principal Mather High School
Currently the Principal at Stephen Tyng Mather High School in Chicago’s West Ridge neighborhood, Peter is honored to serve this committed school community and is proud to work alongside a dedicated team of parents, teachers, and community members determined to support each student as they strive every day to advance their readiness for college and to be their best self. While this is his fourth year at Mather, SY21 will mark his 12th year as principal in CPS. Prior to his current leadership role, Peter had the opportunity to open and lead Shields Middle School. Peter is dedicated to neighborhood schools and sees them as the heart of the city and critical to thriving communities.
Bilingual in Spanish, Peter holds degrees from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA; a B.A. in Business and Public Administration; a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Chicago; a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from National-Louis University. Peter is a graduate of the New Leaders principal preparation program. He has served as Principal at the middle and high school levels, and as a high school teacher - all in Chicago Public Schools. Peter has two children, both of whom attend a CPS neighborhood school.
