Here is the first part of our reading for Beowulf!
We will read lines 1-103 (pages 7-9,)and complete the attached document.
The goal here is to read a small amount of reading very closely and to actually read it.
If your eyes start to glaze over and run over the lines without actually reading: STOP. Readjust. Find your focus. If you need to take a break, take a break.
(We may move to Kami for the future readings.)
Grading:
3=Well done, with thought. Maybe a question is missing, but you marked your confusion and the other answers are well thought out.
2=Something is missing and you didn't ask me any questions, done without much thought.
1=A lot missing
0=Incomplete

Attached is the quiz. Use your notes and be as specific as possible.
Also attached is the story of Theseus. You do not need to read it, but it is a very good example of a hero's journey if you do not have your own examples ready. An audio read out loud is available on the site if you log in with your google account.
Please complete the quiz within the class period. If you are unable to finish within the class period, submit what you have and send me an e-mail ([email protected]) . We will discuss when to find you time to finish it.

Attached is:
1. Today's exit slip
OPTIONAL Material (See slides):
2. An abridged version of one of the most ancient stories. Match it to the Hero's Journey in your definition chart. How many different steps can you find?
3. An example of a Hero's Journey analysis. Your first writing assignment will be very similar to this. Watch it for inspiration. NOTE: The vocabulary is different, but the ideas are the same! Note that the author explains how Star Wars lines up with each step of the journey. You will only have to explain TWO steps--however, I encourage you to choose more.
I encourage you to use your own googling skills to look up other examples of the Hero's Journey.
